Should I claim on my insurance for storm damage?
It depends on the size of the repair against your excess, and on your policy. We photograph what we find so you have the evidence either way, but we cannot advise on your policy or deal with the insurer on your behalf.
What counts as storm damage?
Insurers generally look for damage caused by unusually severe weather rather than gradual deterioration. That is why a roof that was already in poor condition can be harder to claim on, and why photographs of the actual damage matter.
Can you make my roof safe today?
Often yes for the make-safe part, depending on where you are and how busy the day is. Going onto a roof in high wind is not safe, so anything up top may have to wait for the wind to drop.
My neighbour lost slates and I did not. Should I get mine checked?
It is worth doing. Wind lifts material that was already marginal, so a storm often loosens slates and ridge tiles that have not actually come off yet. Catching those is a lot cheaper than the next storm taking them.
